I'm not going to get excited. If Getzlaf is available, the whole league would be interested. The only way we even got Phaneuf was because Sutter kept it silent that he was shopping him.

On another note, the only reason Koivu and Selanne are untouchables is because they've got NTCs.

Burke and Murray very obviously have a strong relationship as evidenced by the number of trades between the two in the couple of years. I sure do hope he is prepared to make an offer for Mr. Getzlaf.

There was a time when Schenn coming up in discussions would've bothered me, and to a degree it still would, I'd rather have him than not. But, with the players we've added (most notably Dion) since Luke was drafted, and the player we'd be dealing for, I'm comfortable making that move.

Plus the fact he goes to the west definitely helps.

Welp, moving Schenn as a centre piece of a deal for Getzlaf is a lot easier to swallow. There are very few players/picks on this team that I wouldn't give up for Getzlaf. Getzlaf between Lupul and Kessel...wow.

Pretty much what Rock said. Any of those guys would make this team better. Ideally you want Getzlaf first, followed by Hiller (given our needs). Kadri, Kulemin, Schenn, Franson, Grabovski, first round picks would have to be considered if it means trying to land one of those guys, I think. I'm not saying these guys would get the job done, BTW.

Getting Getzlaf would be nothing short of amazing.

But if he wants to trade a core player for another core player... then I dont think something like this will work for us. Who are "core" players that can actually be mentioned in a trade for one of these players? Kessel, Phaneuf, maybe Lupul (probably not to the Ducks though), maybe Schenn?

Personally, I dont think we can give up the type of player they'd want.

I'd give Anaheim pretty much anything they want if it would bring us Getzlaf. I salivate at the thought of a Lupul - Getzlaf - Kessel line.

Yeah... Getzlaf is THE player the leafs need. Him and Staal are the 2 that stick out in my mind as the perfect player for this team, but Getzlaf makes close to half of what Staal does.
